Dallas Center-Grimes had an excellent day running the ball in a 35 to 0 win against Fort Dodge and they would like to continue that effort in week four.
The Mustangs rushed for 127 yards as a team which was a season high. Senior running back Eli Carpenter rushed for the bulk of the yardage as he ended up with 26 carries, 116 yards and one touchdown which was his career high. Head Coach Scott Heitland says that if they could duplicate this performance on the ground again this week against Ballard, he would take it.
“We like to throw the ball. I mean, we’ve got a talented quarterback, we’ve got some good receivers. So that’s something that we’re going to do. But at some point in time you got to be able to put the put the ball in the hands of your running back to take the clock down or to salt the game away. And I think last night or Friday night would go a long ways in our confidence to know that that’s something that we can do moving forward.”
Heitland also spoke highly of the offensive line and their performance against Fort Dodge.
“Probably the run game is where I’m the most happy and the most proud of them with what they had done is because that had been something we’ve been putting so much of an emphasis on to do that and execute the way they did. So good group of guys up front. They work really hard and I was excited for them to see the benefits of their hard work and hope to continue to see it this week.”
Dallas Center-Grimes will take on Ballard on the road and it will be broadcasted live on KDLS-2 at 7pm.
