The City of Perry is looking to finish out a housing endeavor at one of its areas of town.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says at last month’s city council meeting, a minimum assessment agreement was approved with Balmer, LLC. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio Balmer is planning to build eight rental units of duplexes on the four lots that they have purchased, which he points out is the final housing project in the two-block area called the Blue Jay Addition.

Peterson notes the long-range plan began in 2013 with the Hamlin Bell apartment building and their 36 units. Then the Perry School District had three student-constructed homes, followed by Capital Homes building a five unit townhome project on the northeast corner. He says the Balmer units will be on the southwest corner of that property. Peterson is hopeful this area will fill out as the community continues to grow.

“Very excited about that. These last two projects, that’s 13 units of very nice market rate housing that’s coming online. Definitely something that’s needed within the community to attract new folks to town to be able to establish some roots, and really become a part of the community. Which is very important to us not only as a city but the rest of the community. We want to be welcoming and include people in our community.”

The Balmer rentals will include three bedrooms and two bathrooms with a two-vehicle garage per unit. The total number of units in that area will be 52.
