The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams hosted for the first time this season, and came up with two big conference wins.
The girls team put things away early, outscoring the Woodward-Granger Hawks 21-7 in the first quarter, and not allowing the Hawks to score double digits in any quarter the rest of the contest, solidifying their 57-21 victory. Junior guard Shay Lemke shares how that fast start was critical.
“Yeah, I think in the beginning, in the first quarter, we just came out with a lot of intensity, and we knew that they had three wins on the season. And we just wanted to put them away right away.”
The boys team continued things from there, ending the first quarter with a 20-4 lead, and going into halftime up 45-19. At the end of the third the Chargers led 65-35, and the game finished with an 81-48 victory. With multiple starters scoring around 20 points, senior guard Lance Bunde mentions that he can see the team repeating that feat all season.
“I think that for our entire season, we can definitely have four or five guys in double figures at all times. And I think that if we, like I said, if we share the ball and keep doing what we’re doing, fast pace, up on defense all the time, I think that’s just going to be a natural thing, because we got a team full of non-selfish guys, and we love sharing the ball, and we love playing with each other. So it’s a good family we got here and I’m really excited for it.”
Both teams are now 2-0 on the season, but are preparing for a tough Van Meter team on Tuesday.
