It’s not often the Greene County and Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines) sports teams compete against each other, but that is the case at 4 p.m. today when the Maroons and Rams meet in girls and boys’ bowling in Jefferson at Spare Time Lanes.

The Greene County boys have a 2-0 dual meet record and are coming off a second place finish on Saturday in Osceola at a tournament held under the Baker format. Greene County’s girls are 0-2 in dual  meets and they were third in the quadrangular on Saturday. Clakre (Osceola) won the boys’ title with 2,927 pins, followed by Greene County at 2,445, Mt. Ayr 2,139, and Lenox 2,101. Clarke had 2.258 to win the girls’ title, followed by Lenox 1,745, Greene County, 1,518, and Mt. Ayr 1,361. Carter Fecher, Chase Fecher, Lane FIelds, Jack Hansen, Teagan Chisholm, and Edrick Heisterkamp were on the Greene County boys’ team with Allison Fields, Nevaeh Kelly, Shai Woodley, Rozella Helms, Sofie Johansen, and Graci Cooklin on the girls’ squad.

The Baker format is when five bowlers from each team are used and the first bowler rolls frames one and six, the second bowler takes the ball in frames two and seven, bowler three competes in frames three and eight with the fourth bowler in the fourth and ninth frames, with the last of the five getting frames five and 10. All scores are combined to come up with a team score.

Today vs. Dowling Catholic, six individuals will bowl two games each with the best four scores used in the team total and for individual series. The match concludes  with five Baker format games.
