Greene County went 3-2 on Saturday at the Ogden Dual Meet Wrestling Tournament to finish fifth among 10 teams. The Rams had a first round bye, then overcame a 24-3 deficit to nip Woodward-Granger, 38-36. A 57-24 victory vs. East Sac County (Lake View) came next followed by losses to Regina Catholic (Iowa City) 53-27 and to Algona by a 71-12 count. The fifth place match was against the host Bulldogs and the Rams won 35-33 to improve to at 5-5 in dual meets on the season.
The only Ram to go 5-0 on the day was junior Brent Dennhardt at 165 lbs. He recorded four falls and a technical fall. Senior Gavin Scheuermann (157) was 3-0 with a fall, a major decision, and a win by forfeit. Senior Zeke Binkley (150) won by fall in his only match. Rams going 4-1 were Jaron Jacobs (106), Brennan Jacobs (113), and Jackson Turner (150). Going 3-2 on Saturday for Greene County were Crew Conner (144), Degan Miller (175), and Marcus Ball (215). The Rams were 31-14 overall, but forfeited anywhere from three to five weight classes in every dual meet.
Kirk Davis, the head coach of the Rams, told Raccoon Valley Radio he saw his wrestlers compete all day long. “We were able to get in there and scrap. With as many open weights as we had, winning three dual meets is a good day, and all the credit goes to the kids.”
Next up is a December 15 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meet vs. Saydel (Des Moines) at the high school in Jefferson. The day begins with a multi-team middle school meet, followed by the Eagles and Rams.
