
Dallas Center – Grimes boys and girls basketball were on the court on Friday night against the Newton Cardinals, and both teams were able to come up with the victory with the girls winning 57-24 and the boys winning 80-61. Both teams remain undefeated on the season with the girls 6-0 and the boys 4-0.
The girls were able to use a dominant first quarter as they were able to outscore the home side 24-1. Kayla Reis was able to put together a dominant game as she was able to put up 26 points, and DCG was able to find nine different players in the scoring column. Through the first six games this season, DCG has been able to defeat every single opponent by double figures.
The boys got hit with a barrage of threes in the first quarter and trailed early, but were able to wake up and take a one point lead. The Mustangs then played near flawless basketball for the next two quarters, outscoring Newton by 25 points as they were able to get near any shot that they wanted offensively. Jonathan Howard was able to lead the Mustangs in scoring, and they also were able to find double figure scoring from Calix Cahill and Jackson Green. Newton had not given up more than 42 points in their previous three games.
Both of these teams will not have a game until Friday when they return to Little Hawkeye Conference play, as they will host the Oskaloosa Indians in Grimes. Girls will tip at 6:15 and the boys will follow at approximately 7:45. You can listen to coverage on the KDLS2 stream.
