Ten Greene County High School boys’ soccer seniors ended their high school athletic careers with a 2-1 loss to Humboldt at the Humboldt Soccer Field on Monday night. Starting 34 minutes late due to not having officials, the Class 2A Substate 7 semifinal contest was scoreless at halftime. The Wildcats scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half and held the Rams scoreless until 10:17 remained on the clock. Class 2A’s leader goal scorer, senior Gesser Gutierres, got Carl Behne’s team on the board with the 118th goal of his career, and his 49th this season, but that was it, and the Rams end 11-3, with all the losses by one goal. The Wildcats advance to Wednesday night’s Substate final with a 13-1 mark.

Uncharacteristically, the Rams missed at least 15 good shots, nine of them in the first half. One of 2A’s highest scoring teams, Greene County was denied time after time, even missing a penalty kick for the first time this season.
