With the damage caused by the tornado that struck Greenfield yesterday, there are many organizations and groups heading to the city to offer assistance.

In a post from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, they are credentialing anyone coming to help at the Department of Transportation Maintenance Shed on Highway 92 just east of town. This is to help make sure that essential service workers such as emergency responders, utility workers, and cleanup crews aren’t delayed by those that are nonessential.

The Guthrie Center restaurant, Cafe on the Hill, will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Church from noon to 2pm serving a free lunch of hot beef sundaes for those affected by the disaster and those providing aid. Zipp’s Pizzaria will also be back in Greenfield with their food truck to feed residents and volunteers as well, offering food free of charge at the St John’s Catholic Church parking lot. The Stuart Fire Department is also accepting donations of goods and money at the Stuart Fire Station to deliver to Greenfield as well. Items they are asking for include non-perishable food, hygiene products, diapers, toys and anything for children or the elderly.

Most entrances to the town are also manned by Iowa State Patrol Troopers, as an emergency proclamation has been issued by the city, limiting access between the hours of 10pm and 7am, being the curfew hours. After 7am, identification showing a Greenfield address will be required, and if individuals are delivering goods or aid they need to relay a specific location they are heading to, and be prepared to contact someone at that location for verification.
