The Stuart Public Library is ready for their summer reading program to begin in July.
Librarian Mary McColloch says that the initial registration has ended, but families can still come into the library to get their children registered. She mentions that programs begin on July 1st, taking place on Mondays except for July 16th, which is a Tuesday.
McColloch explains that the first program will be with the Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and is called “Hello Honey Bees,” and that they will have some different flavored honeys for the children to try. The program on July 8th will be “Renew, Repeat,” and will cover some healthy exercise habits, and go over recycling as well. On July 16th, Darin Crow will be in to tell fairy tales, folktales and tall tales, and on July 22nd, they will have a science program at the library, which participants do need to register for.
McColloch says that on July 29th they will have their color fun run and water games at the Stuart Sports Complex. She shares that all programs will be at 3pm. For the reading portion of the program, McColloch mentions that they have reading logs for the children, and that they would like to see each child read at least 20 minutes every day. When the kids come in for the programs in the library, they can mark their logs, and for every five days they read at least 20 minutes, they will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a fun experience.
