A reminder that today everyone is invited for family fun entertainment in one of Greene County’s smallest towns.
Rippey Fun Day has lots of festivities and Co-Organizer Chelsi Lawrence says the morning highlights are the parade at 10am, along with three-on-three basketball and pickleball tournaments at 11am. There is also a variety of vendors and food trucks, as well as the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association grilling hamburgers with a meal on Main Street.
The afternoon has the car, truck, tractor, semi and motorcycle show at the fire station from 1-4pm, with prizes and a $20 entry fee. Lawrence points out there is a separate truck show with trophies coinciding with the other vehicle show. The 3K Color Run/Walk starts at 2pm at the city park with a $5 entry fee or $25 for a family.
A petting zoo and lawn games are north of Walt Anderson Field this afternoon, with a meal served by the First United Methodist Church from 4:30-6:30pm. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, desserts, pie and homemade ice cream. The evening activities is the Town and Country Band performing from 6-7pm near the Walt Anderson Field, with a baseball game to follow at 7:30pm featuring the Mid-Iowa Baseball League 18+. Then there are fireworks at 9:30pm and a street dance and live musical entertainment from 10pm-midnight.
Lawrence talks about why she wanted to get involved with helping to organize Rippey Fun Day.
“Well Rippey is a really small community, I want Rippey to be a place families want to come to every summer, and every year just make the event bigger and better.”
Additionally, Lawrence adds that there is going to be a beer tent and raffles with two custom painted tool boxes by Colby Baugh, with tickets for $10 and the beer tent will be in front of the library.
