Jefferson residents are encouraged to get rid of any household hazardous materials for free this Saturday.
City Administrator Scott Peterson says the annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is Saturday from 9-11am on the north side of the downtown square. Residents can gather up a wide variety of the accepted items and enter the north side of the square from the west to drop everything off and then exit to the east. He gives this advice when bringing hazardous materials on Saturday.
“Absolute best case scenario is that the chemicals are in their original containers so that you know what they are. But, like one thing that’s accepted is used oil, but it does need to be in a container, it needs to be in a liquid-type container that has some type of a lid.”
Peterson notes that this is for Jefferson residents only and no business or farmer can participate. The city partners with Metro Waste Authority to provide this once per year opportunity for Jefferson residents. The list of accepted and not accepted items can be found by clicking the link below.
