More details have emerged pertaining to the two vehicle collision that occurred in northern Dallas County on Friday.

Boone County Sheriff Andy Godzicki tells Raccoon Valley Radio that two vehicles were traveling northbound on Highway 169 as a 2014 Ford 150 was rear-ended while attempting to make a left turn near 335th Street shortly after 5pm by a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse. The Ford was driven by Ronda Zimmerman and the Chevy Traverse was operated by Jacob Pliner. Godzicki shares that Pliner was distracted by his dog, who climbed into the front passenger seat, and didn’t notice Zimmerman stopping in time to make a left turn. He notes that Pliner and his son, who was in the car as well, were treated on scene for minor injuries, while Zimmerman was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital, and Godzicki confirms that she remains alive in the hospital. Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill says when they got on scene, they had to extricate two people from their vehicles.

Godzicki adds that both vehicles are considered total losses and that Pliner was cited for failure to stop at a safe distance. He says agencies that assisted them with the collision included the Perry Police and Fire Departments, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Hospital Ambulance, Granger Police Department, Life Flight, and Condon’s Towing.
