A local Iowa doctor is extending his services to the Perry community for patients that need hand treatment.

Dr. Ben Paulson is a hand surgeon with Iowa Ortho, but will frequent the Dallas County Hospital twice a month on the first and third Thursdays. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he grew up in Ogden, Iowa, then went onto college in St. Louis, Missouri and North Carolina, where he attended Duke University for medical school, and also spent a year at Yale University, in Connecticut. Paulson outlines that he was always fascinated by procedure work and finds that repairing ligaments is captivating.

“I kind of enjoy fixing people after injuries. Unfortunately, a lot of those people don’t like to see me, but I find fixing tendons is fun, fixing bones are fine, (and) sowing up lacerations.”

Paulson adds that he specializes in the hand from the tips of the fingers to the elbow. He names common areas he treats are carpal tunnel syndrome, ganglion cyst, trigger fingers, or abnormal growth. He admits that he began coming to DCH a few months ago to provide services to patients. To set up an appointment with Dr. Paulson, contact the Dallas County Hospital at (515)-465-7696.
