A Red Oak man was recently sentenced to probation in Greene County District Court.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Jesse Nelson pled guilty to a Class D Felony for third degree burglary and a serious misdemeanor for fourth degree theft. He had a five year prison and one year county jail sentences suspended, respectively, and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charges stemmed from an incident that happened in Jefferson on September 8th. The Jefferson Police Department investigated missing items from five rental storage units that were broken into. Investigators used video surveillance of the same vehicle that was parked in the Wild Rose Casino parking lot and identified Nelson as one of the suspects.

Nelson was also ordered to pay probation fees, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs of over $1,000, as well as victim restitution. As per the plea agreement, the other four felony charges against Nelson were dismissed.
