The next concert performance for the Perry Fine Arts is coming up on Sunday, featuring a group from the metropolitan area.
The Perry Fine Arts is welcoming the Greater Des Moines Community Band to town for their fifth concert of the 2024-25 season. According to Chairperson Cathy Clark, there’s over 100 members in the band and the theme centers around New Orleans-style jazz music. Clark expresses that two individuals from the group, Carrie Allen and Don Parker, are from Perry and she happens to know them personally.
“Carrie graduated from high school in Perry. Her mother was a beautician and I went to her shop. Don Parker has been in town for a long time. At one time, they had, I believe a flower shop here in town, but she’s been active in different things in the community. Good people and come and enjoy their performances.”
Clark mentions that the Greater Des Moines Community Band was founded in 1987, emphasizing that all the members are volunteers. She says that the concert is open to people of all ages for free and is taking place at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street, on Sunday at 2pm.
