An informational class about severe weather that was rescheduled is being held tomorrow in Casey.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper says that there will be a storm spotter training class taught by a member of the National Weather Service in Des Moines. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the class is open to any who are interested to come and learn the different things to watch for in the event of severe weather. Cooper shares another outcome that they look for with the training.

“And the alternative goal to the storm spotter class is not just for public awareness, but all our first responders and law enforcement officers, they join in and use it as a refresher for weather as we enter the severe weather season too. But also it’s to get community members out there that might want to sign up to be a registered storm spotter.”

Cooper explains that there will be trivia, a question and answer segment, and a presentation on different forms of severe weather commonly seen in central Iowa, and that those who attend will receive the necessary information to sign up as a registered storm spotter with the National Weather Service. He adds that when someone registers as a storm spotter, it makes them more credible sources when reporting weather activities. Cooper states that the class will be from 7-9pm at the Casey Community Building tomorrow night.
