The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council heard from the owner of Off Course Golf Carts about being able to use the portion of Market Street in front of the building for testing aspects of the carts they sell, like speed and handling, and the item was added to the agenda for the next meeting. They also heard from Corbin Deardorff, who is trying to become an Eagle Scout. He told the Council that he needs to do a project that benefits the community, and asked for permission to install a community fire pit near Lenon Mill Park that could be used by the public, and also for the burning ceremony regarding retired flags. This item was also added to the next meeting agenda.
The Council then heard from Panora Library Board President Chris Hastings on the need to replace the three geothermal conditioning units for the library, as they are reaching the end of their lifespan at 17 years old. Hastings added that issues had come up with the units recently that hadn’t been expected, and since it was after the budgetary meetings, the expense of replacing them had not been included in the budget.
The Council then approved an update to the City Brush Facility policy, which would switch access to certain hours of the day instead of by key, as city staff were having to track down the keys after use when some residents weren’t bringing them back to City Hall. The Council also approved a project to build a full sized basketball court at Michael Mills Park, and set a hearing for May 12th at 5:30pm regarding a planning and zoning commission recommendation for a request to vacate an alley. They tabled a decision on action regarding a Community Development Building Grant, and approved a resolution to enter a sewer maintenance contract with CIS Sewer Solutions, set a public hearing for a proposed fiscal year 2024-25 budget amendment and an interfund transfer for the fiscal year 2025 budget.
