District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair
Last week the Senate passed a bill regarding grants for all day child care providers.
Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that Senate File 445 would help to provide funding through grants to child care providers that have wrap-around services for preschool aged children, along with all day services for younger children. She shares what intrigued her about the bill.
“There are a couple of parts to it that I really liked. Part of the problem with our child care system is less in the availability of child care as it is in the availability of child care workers. And so adding in their eligibility for child care assistance, because they are lower wage earners, adding in their ability to automatically qualify for child care assistance makes sense in keeping qualified people in those roles as well as keeping the slots open for families who are using them.”
Sinclair mentions that she believes having these services helps families to be more confident that their children are in safe and caring environments, which allows parents to fill positions in different work force areas in the state.
