The Jefferson Library Youth Services Department is partnering with the Greene County Conservation Department one final time for the season to put on a free program.

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says the third and final Species Spotlight will feature groundhogs and woodchucks on Monday from 4-5pm for grades kindergarten through eighth. She points out that these programs are intended to give kids the opportunity to learn more about wildlife animals that may be located in the area. Mount notes that Greene County Conservation Naturalist Jacob Fernholz will be leading the program as she describes some of the details that participants can expect.

“We have a story that we read, then Jacob does his sort of presentation, he asks the kids questions, and just tells them different things about the animal. He’ll bring out the pelt, if he has it, then we’ll do some sort of activity that’s related to the animal. So like for the fox, we practiced fox walking which is just basically a way to be as quiet and quick as possible when you’re walking through a forest of a wooded area.”

The program is free, it will take place at the Youth Services Department of the library, and no pre-registration is required.
