
Coach Chad Black’s Greene County High School boys’ soccer team hosted MOC-Floyd Valley (Orange City) on Tuesday night with the Dutchmen winning the Class 2A Substate 8 first round match, 6-3. MOC-FV improved to 3-8-3 while the Rams end with a 7-4-1 record. The loss was the first opening round defeat for the Rams in the seven seasons they’ve played the sport. The six goals allowed were the most scored this season by the Dutchmen and the most allowed this season by the Rams.
The visiting team ‘led 2-0 and then the Rams scored three straight to lead 3-2 early in the second half. The Dutchmen weren’t done, however, and they ended the game with four goals in a row to make the long trip back to Orange City with a surprise victory.
Two Greene County goals were scored by junior Franklin Regaloado and one by sophomore Lincoln Schwander. Regalado, the Rams; leading scorer, finished with 20 goals, while Schwander scored eight this season. Nathan Anderson had three goals for the Dutchmen.
Most of the Rams’ four losses this season were to senior dominated teams, which MOC-FV was with 14 seniors. Jacob Harmeyer and Marcus Ball are the only seniors on the Greene County team.
