An early Zach Bruck goal wasn’t enough as Dallas Center-Grimes is eliminated by Cedar Rapids Washington in penalty kicks, 3-1, on Monday in Grimes.

The Mustangs returned to the State Tournament to defend their 3A title.  The top team in the bracket was upset by the Warriors.  DCG got out to an early 1-0 lead after Zach Bruck gave the home crowd a reason to cheer in the 12th minute.  CRW tied things up in the 32nd minute after a Jacob Klein goal.  The match was tied 1-1 at half.  An early second half goal gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead until the 68th minute Landon Anderson came up with the equalizer.  Regulation would end at 2-2 and an additional two overtimes didn’t change the score.

It was a one sided affair in PK’s.  Jaden Mendias surrendered a goal on all three shots in the shootout.  The Mustangs missed their second and third shots as the title defense comes up three wins short.

DCG ends the season at 13-3-3.
