As the Greene County Fair is in full swing, there are still lots to do.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says there are 32 static exhibits that qualified for the Iowa State Fair. Wednesday night saw Addison Gannon being crowned as this year’s Greene County Fair Queen. She talked about what it meant for her to be the fair queen.

“Well, I’m definitely excited to just be around the fair, inspiring younger kids that are going to be looking up to me now. And so, I just really want to inspire the younger generation.”

Going into tomorrow, Hardaway notes that at 8am the 4-H/FFA and Clover Kids Sheep and Little Lambs Show is in the show ring, followed by the Beef Pen-of-Three and then Herdbuilder judging takes place also in the morning. In the afternoon, Hardaway points out that the Goat Show is in the show ring at 2:30pm, along with the Pet Show in Clover Hall at 4:30pm, followed by the 4-H Fashion Show. She explains that 4-H’ers can show up tomorrow for the Pet Show which she believes is an underrated event at the fair.

“It’s something that kind of flies under the radar that not a lot of people think about, just because I feel like a lot of time goes into the other shows that they kind of don’t get as many participants in that but if you are not somebody that lives on a farm or somebody that has a cat and you really want to show it, or you have a frog and you really want to bring it, now’s your opportunity.”

Other activities happening tomorrow include ice cream making with Greene County Farm Bureau, a Birds of Prey demonstration with Greene County Conservation, along with a Waterrocks Trailer about water quality and healthy soils, followed by a beef BBQ meal with a performance by the Town and Country Band in the evening. A mechanical bull goes from 5-8:30pm near the Grandstand, with the featured act being the rodeo beginning at 7:30pm, followed by a fireworks show. Tickets for the Grandstand are $10 per person and five and under are free.

Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will also be there broadcasting live from the Greene County Fairgrounds from Wednesday through Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-1pm.
