An organization in Greene County is returning with its second year of a festive fundraiser.

The Salvation Army of Greene County is hosting the “Christmas in July” with its iconic red kettles at both the Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee stories this Friday and Saturday afternoon and evenings, and from noon-6pm on Sunday at Hy-Vee. According to Salvation Army of Greene County member Bill Monroe, they collected $5,000 during the holiday season in December, and within two months of their new year, only $228 remains.

Monroe points out many more families are struggling to make ends meet and they disperse their funds based on the recommendations from Greene County New Opportunities. He says money has been given to help with rent, heat and water bill payment assistance, as well as an occasional request for replacing a tire or for gas to help someone to get to and from their job.

The Salvation Army of Greene County is asking for the public’s help to donate to their cause and for bell ringers to assist this weekend. Contact them at 515-386-4925.
