The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball Team participated in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 4A 3rd Place game on Thursday, as the Tigers rallied in the 7th inning over the Lady Lancers of North Scott to finish the 2025 season on a high note.

The game was scoreless through the first 5 innings, before North Scott junior Adalynn Johnson hit a solo home run right down the middle to give the Lady Lancers a late 1-0 advantage in the top of the 6th inning.

ADM only had 3 hits through 6 innings, then the Tigers came alive in the bottom of the 7th when sophomore Kinzie Maxwell led off with a single to get on first base, which then courtesy runner Peyton Herrick came to run for. Then senior Madi James successfully executed on a bunt single to safely get to first base, and prompted Herrick all the way to third base. Following that, senior Kennedy Stanford hit a line drive over the third baseman of Johnson, which brought the tying run of Herrick to knot it up at 1-1.

Tiger sophomore Makenna Pitlick hit a sacrifice bunt to advance James to third and Lauryn Troster (courtesy runner for Stanford) to second. Freshman Aubrey Noring then laid down a bunt, which was far enough out to have James come in to complete the 7th inning rally for ADM, giving them the 2-1 victory. James, who finished 1-3, says she had specific instructions from her Head Coach Lindsay Stanford to ignite the rally.

“Coach gave me the bunt sign, and I was like ‘you’ve got to be kidding me,’ and I took the first one, strike, (then) she gave it to me again, and I was like ‘alright I got to bunt it here, there’s no chance I’m getting to hit,’ and did my job, which felt good to get on and everything for that. Moved a runner and once that happened, I was like ‘alright, we’re doing it here,’ which is exciting.”

The losing pitcher was Lady Lancer junior Cadey Bredar, who went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 runs, and captured 2 strikeouts. The winning pitcher was Tiger junior Lauren Hagedorn, who completed 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, walked 3 batters, and retired 3.

North Scott finished in 4th for Class 4A with a final record of 30-13, while ADM ended up in 3rd concluding the year 29-9. The Lady Lancers graduate Chevelle Kingsley, while the Tigers say goodbye to three seniors of James, Kennedy Stanford, and Aniston Tollari.
