Any Greene County youth going into grades 3rd-6th are encouraged to register for football.

The Greene County Youth Athletic Association (GCYAA) is going to do 3rd-6th grade flag football leagues this year. According to GCYAA, flag football provides many benefits for kids including an entry point into the sport in a contact-free way, making it a fun activity for all 3rd-6th graders to enjoy. Organizers say that flag football is a healthy program that gets kids physically active and off their screens, while also developing how to be a team player and to win or lose gracefully.

GCYAA President Travis Warnke says the decision to move only to flag football was one that was done in collaboration with Greene County High School Head Varsity Football Coach Caden Duncan. Warnke tells Raccoon Valley Radio that as the youth program is a feeder system into the high school sport, Duncan’s recommendations are one of the main aspects they use when making changes.

The registration fee is $50 by this coming Monday, otherwise there is a $20 late fee added on until all registrations are closed on August 15th. The season is from August 19th-October 21st. An additional $10 discount will be with families that have multiple athletes that sign up. There are also financial scholarships available for consideration. Click here to sign up.
