The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors once again discussed the county’s severe weather policy during their August 19th meeting.

The policy was approved earlier this summer, but there were a few items that the Board thought needed to be gone over again and finalized. A big part of that was having department heads and elected officials make a list of essential and non-essential positions in their departments in the case of severe weather like snow storms and severe thunderstorms.

They also discussed changing the way that pay was calculated for events. Previously, if county offices were shut down in the case of a snowstorm, those employees that were essential and still worked earned overtime pay. The Board discussed changing it so that overtime pay only came into effect if the employee had already worked 40 hours that week. Another topic discussed is if county offices stayed open, but employees weren’t able to come in, or didn’t feel comfortable coming in, they would need to use some form of paid time off for that day.
