An entity that started up last year in Greene County heads into its second year with a few changes.
Multicultural Family Resource Center Director Sara Huddleston is in her second year helping other individuals and families with diverse cultural backgrounds to work, live and play in Greene County. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that over the past year, she was involved in about 20 different areas, including assisting local law enforcement, housing, education and healthcare. Huddleston talks about one immigrant from the Philippines who reached out to her about the MFRC.
“She’s been here like less than a year, wanted to find out who we are, and the main point was about looking for a job, employment. And so, I worked with her and next thing, she’s now working at the hospital (Greene County Medical Center). Which the regional hospital in our town (of Jefferson) has done a wonderful job, a wonderful job and diversifying their employees.”
According to the MFRC, one of the changes for this year is being a stand alone organization, after being with Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) for the inaugural year. However, Huddleston notes that they will still partner with GCDC on various projects and other efforts to grow the overall community. Additionally, Huddleston says Mike Holden is staying as part of their dedicated board as the chair, while the other board members, including Kristin Russell, Brett Abbotts and Scott Weber, will focus their efforts primarily as GCDC board members. New board members will be announced in September.
Huddleston talks about one item that has impressed her so far as the MFRC Director.
“I am very impressed to feel the welcome that people has been very positive, I have to say very positive, at least from what I’ve seen, a very positive welcome, a very positive support. Again, this is me, I was trying to get involved in any community event, trying to do the right thing, to help everyone. I think that has helped.”
