Recent changes to Iowa legislation, hunters who are disabled veterans are able to obtain deer tags.

According to Dallas County Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Dustin Eighmy, legislators signed a law for disabled veterans to acquire an “Any-Sex Bonus Deer License.” He explains that the license is for Iowans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States on federal active duty and were disabled during their military service. Eighmy reveals what the license covers.

“It can be used in any firearm season using that legal method of take, and only one license can be purchased per customer per year. So if you just go to our website, there is an application that you can fill out for that. The fur harvester was also another one they added for the disabled vets for a lifetime for harvester licenses as well.”

Eighmy outlines that the DNR has made it easy by merging the applications together for disabled veterans to submit just one document to get licenses for hunting, fishing, or more. To learn more about the application, click here.
