The city of Jefferson is hosting an event later this week to celebrate the completion of a renovation that took over one year to get done.

City Administrator Scott Peterson says they are having a Java and Juice at 9:30am at Kelso Park with Jefferson Matters. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Wastewater Treatment Plant is being highlighted, because of the scope of what needed to be done to the facility following the new discharge requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

“So here we have the largest capital improvement project that the city of Jefferson has ever done. Now, it’s coming in just coming in a little bit over $18 million on that project. That is then laying the groundwork so that we’re good for our wastewater treatment needs for the next 20 years or so.”

Peterson points out that following the Java and Juice program will be a ribbon cutting and public tours of the area. He adds that there will be golf carts to take people from Kelso Park to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for anyone who needs assistance. Friday’s event is free and open to the public.
