The teen that died from a recent officer-involved shooting was a student with the Boone School District.

In a letter that was sent to families, Boone School District Superintendent Dr. Julie Trepa said in a statement in the letter:

“It is with a great deal of sadness that I share this message with you. The Boone Community School District has been informed that a student at Boone High School, Camryn Stonehocker, passed away on Saturday, September 6th.”

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Stonehocker was in a pursuit with the Boone Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office late Saturday night that ended in Greene County. The DCI states that officers fired shots at Stonehocker following the chase, when Stonehocker exited his vehicle and advanced on officers with a weapon. The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. DCI continues that the officers involved were uninjured and are on critical incident leave, as per department policy.

The DCI states that once their investigation is complete, the report will be forwarded to the Greene County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General for review.

The Boone School District has counselors on hand to provide support to any student or staff member that needs these services and further resources are provided below. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
