Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson lays out the next steps after accepting development agreements with three companies soon coming to the community.
Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the city council recently approved agreements with JBS Prepared Foods Incorporated, A.D.R. Axles USA, and M&R Properties Iowa LLC to build facilities in the area. He shares that JBS will have a sausage plant that will seemingly replace the Tyson Foods Pork Plant, on a smaller scale, that was shut down at the end of June in 2024, laying off approximately 1,300 employees.
Peterson says that M&R Properties is already in the midst of building their structure, and will serve as a multi-tenant flex space, then he notes that the council did accept the development agreement for A.D.R. Axles USA, but that the approval won’t happen until the next meeting this coming Monday.
Peterson states the reason for that is because the company is based in Italy and the country has a shut down period during the summer where all the employees receive time off, and the agreement didn’t get finalized in time for the September 1st meeting. He is happy to be bringing back employment opportunities to residents who lost their jobs at Tyson or other organizations that recently closed in Perry, as well as inviting new people into the community.
“Great things happening. There’s always more work to do to attract new companies to bring jobs to the community for folks that live here, want to work here, but also in all that, always welcoming new residents to the community too. And looking at housing development and finding places for people to live, and be able to really call Perry home.”
Peterson describes that all three facilities will be located in Perry’s Industrial Park along Highway 141 and will be ready for operation at different time periods in 2026.
