September is National Food Safety Education Month and the Guthrie County ISU Extension office has some reminders to keep kitchens clean.
Coordinator Vickie Frohling says to help keep kitchens from collecting dangerous bacteria, always clean work surfaces with warm, soapy water and always clean spills right away.
She states that you should wash the front and back of your hands and in between fingers and under fingernails in warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds to kill any bacteria that made by from exposed food or any spills.
Frohling also recommends to change and clean dish towels frequently and on the hot water cycle of the washing machine.
For dishes and utensils, Frohling suggests you wash those in the dishwasher or with hot, soapy water.
Following these tips can help keep your kitchen clean and free from bacteria and germs.
