The Greene County boys were fifth among 10 teams at the Leon Fox Coed Cross-County Invitational north of Perry at the Golf & Country Club on Thursday. The Rams only had four girls run the five kilometers (3.1 miles), one runner short of qualifying for a team score.
ADM won the boys’ team title with 30 points, followed by Winterset at 102, Ballard (Huxley) 105, Saydel (Des Moines) 116, Greene County 144, Perry 149, Woodward-Granger 163, Roland-Story (Story City) 184, Des Moines Hoover 203, and South Hamilton (Jewell) 234.
The Rams top five runners in the majority of meets this season were their five point scorers at Perry. Junior Brady Carstensen was 16th in 18:31.13, followed by sophomore Nick Black, 19th in 18:55.17, senior Jaden Koller, 24th in 10:20.34, sophomore Kole Johnson-Peterson, 38th in 20:16.72, and junior Eli Carstensen, 46th in 20:57.66.
The Rams top female finisher was sophomore Rylee Mowrer, 31st in 24:03.15. Junior Evelyn Snyder was 44th in 26:02.42, followed by sophomore Cora Powers, 50th in 29:38.81, and 51st place senior Leah McCormick in 30:06.03.
Head coach Jeff Lamoureux told Raccoon Valley Radio that he was pretty pleased with the overall performance. “The times were not as fast as previous meets, but that was a result of the high temps and the hills of the Perry golf course. We’ve got a busy schedule ahead and a short break before heading to Lake City on Tuesday.”
