A bill passed in US Congress recently is the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act.

Congressman Zach Nunn says that the number one killer of Americans from high school aged to middle aged is fentanyl, with a majority being manufactured in China. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that just last year, over 20,000 pounds of the drug was seized by US Customs and Border Control agents.

“We know where it comes from. It’s backed by the Communist Party in China. They’re the producers of the chemicals. And in turn, through illicit means, they funnel it into Mexico and then cartels push it into our communities here in the United States. So while I’m proud that the House has done its job in helping secure our border, we now have the next battle ahead of us. That is to make sure that we crack down on China, the Chinese operators who are producing this fentanyl.”

Nunn mentions that the bill expands US sanctions on Chinese companies, banks and officials who knowingly facilitate, finance and traffic the fentanyl. He adds that a big reason the bill was passed in Congress is unfortunately from real world stories from Iowa, and that the next steps for the bill is to be passed in the Senate and then make its way to the president’s desk.
