Many prominent law enforcement and other first responders will be participating in an annual fall event today in Perry.
Community Involvement Coordinator for Perry Hy-Vee Larry Vodenik tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Public Safety Day is in the Hy-Vee parking lot along 141st Street. He explains the purpose of the event is to familiarize residents, especially children, with local law enforcement and other emergency workers, while learning about the equipment they use.
Perry Police Chief Jim Archer says it’s nice to be in a good atmosphere where people can see officers in a positive light.
“A lot of the time we’re doing with those people, it’s not a real good situation, so it’s nice to be able to have a relaxed environment where we can show some of the stuff that we do, and interact with people. It also shows the citizens what your tax dollars are really going for, and we’re pretty frugal in the City of Perry. So I think we do a really good job within the city to provide the services that we need and be fiscally responsible as well with those tax dollars.”
Vodenik details that entities that are in attendance include the Perry Police and Fire Departments, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, and more. He adds that the event is free and that there will be plenty of photo opportunities for children. Perry’s Public Safety Day is taking place from 10am-1pm.
