October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Perry Police Department is showing its support in a unique way.
Police Sergeant Alex Lott tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Perry Officers are wearing pink badges to stand in solidarity with Breast Cancer Awareness. He shares that he started lobbying to do this last year, but couldn’t get the badges ordered in time, so they pushed it back to this year. Lott details exactly why he wanted to begin the campaign for the Perry community.
“I wanted to do something for the town that I grew up in. Since I’ve been here, going on six years now, back with the PD (police department), there’ve been multiple incidents and multiple stuff going on. And not just the love and support that we had from our community, I just wanted our PD to give back. Just show something that we support those that are going through things. Because everyone knows that we all go through stuff, and especially something as serious as breast cancer, I just wanted to show that we see you, we support you, and we just really wanted to show that love to the community and give it back.”
Lott notes that officers will be sporting the pink badges all throughout the month and is hopeful to do this every October moving forward.
