The major icon in Greene County will be spotlighted tomorrow.

The Bell Tower Community Foundation is celebrating the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower’s 59th birthday with a celebration event. Community Foundation member Peg Raney says typically youth 18 and younger are admitted free, with the 2025 sponsorship of Dr. Keith Van Beek and Dr. James Teusch, but tomorrow everyone can tour the facility for free.

Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich invites everyone out to see what is new with the bell tower and to meet some new staff, including retired educators, which he jokingly talks about how popular those individuals are.

“I don’t know who benefits more from the retired teacher portal in our community, whether it’s Deal’s Orchard, the Mahanay Bell Tower, or Jefferson Matters. Those three entities have a lot of retired educators or folks from the education arena come and work for them, kind of in retirement. So we’re really grateful for that, a lot of great community leaders that turn to these part-time jobs, and are volunteer opportunities and continue the love through those different venues.”

Additionally, Raney says there will be a special Tower Tunes Live event from 12:15-12:30pm tomorrow with Mahanay Maestro Rhena Lane. The Bell Tower is open daily until November 1st from 10am-4pm.
