The Greene County Rams play a Class 3A District 6 high school football game in Creston this Friday at 7 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. The Rams are 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the district while the Panthers are 0-7, 0-3.
A complete two-platoon in 3A football isn’t unheard of, and Creston uses that system, one where 22 different players man the 22 spots on offense and defense. What makes the Panthers unique is that it’s extremely rare for a team without a win this late in the season to not use at least some of its best athletes on both sides of the ball. Creston averages nearly 20 points per game on offense, but its defensive average is 43 points. Playing one of the more difficult schedules for a 3A team is a contributing factor to those numbers.
