November 1st marks the opening day for all individuals to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), according to Rhonda Huggins, Family Development Coordinator at New Opportunities of Guthrie County. LIHEAP eligibility is determined by household income. For this year, a single-person household must have an annual income under $30,120, with approximately $10,000 added for each additional household member.
Huggins also mentioned to Raccoon Valley Radio that individuals who are income-eligible for LIHEAP can receive assistance from the food pantry she oversees. While LIHEAP is not a prerequisite for the food pantry, she does ask that an application is filled out. When applying on or after November 1st, individuals will need to provide social security cards for every household member and proof of income for the past month for those who are employed.
