The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

County Attorney Thomas Laehn gave an update. He said the county received a request for a permanent easement on the Raccoon River Valley Trail from Summit Carbon Solutions. The Board took no action, pending a formal review of the request by Laehn. Laehn also mentioned that he was able to successfully get an additional jury trial date that will be held on October 28th, with the regular scheduled jury trial date coming up on November 4th.

County Engineer Wade Weiss reported that painting and stripping is happening on the County Road E-18 project, with crews doing shoulder grading for the County Road P-46 project.

Next, the Board approved to renew the county health insurance plan with a five percent reduction in premiums going into the 2026 calendar year. They also approved the employee handbook with some changes made for new hires and when their pay period begin, along with the County Treasurer’s quarterly investment report for July through September.

Finally, the Board held a discussion about possibly increasing full-time wages for employees in the Ambulance Department. It was stated that a consulting firm that was hired recommended wages to be increased to $28 per hour for paramedics, $26 per hour for advanced emergency medical technicians and $24 for an EMT. A local committee had recommended raising the pay for paramedics to $26.50 per hour, an advanced EMT to $24.50 and an EMT to $22.50 per hour.

It was mentioned that the current wages are $23.47 for paramedics, an advanced EMT, depending on years of experience, ranged from $15.90 to $20.16 per hour, and an EMT also ranged from $14.20 per hour to $15.30 per hour, depending on years of experience. The reason for the discussion was due to losing employees to higher paying jobs. Following the discussion, the Board tabled their decision to a future meeting to further review the recommendations.
