The leader of the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District discusses the area of emphasis during September’s School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) meeting.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio the SIAC meeting usually covers topics such as major educational needs, student learning goals, long-range annual improvement goals, desired levels of student performance, and harassment or bullying prevention. He acknowledges that September’s meeting revolved around the At-Risk Program.

“And how we identify students who might have at-risk variables in their lives and how we support them. So that was really the heart of the report was our at-risk programming and how we serve students if they are identified as ‘at-Risk.’”

Dufoe says that committee will take the data, then create a culture, building assistance, and intervention teams, as well as work with school counselors and offer on-site mental health therapy services to help At-Risk students.

Dufoe mentions that the student achievement goals surrounding the spring science, math, and English/language arts, were also highlighted during the meeting, and he’s happy with the academic progress happening in the school district.
