Older youth in Jefferson are invited to a free program on Friday at the Jefferson Public Library.

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says Greene County Conservation Naturalist Jacob Fernholz is leading a program called, “No Bones About It” on Friday from 4:30-5:30pm for 5th-12th graders. Fernholz explains what teens will be experiencing with this program.

“Going into basic animal forensics, if you’re seeing this bone out in the wild and it’s just laying in the ground, what part of an animal or what animal can you ID based on that bone? Pretty easy when you have a skull, you can kind of get pretty close, but what happens if it’s a vertebra? Do you know if it’s a deer? Do you know if it’s a cow? We’re going to kind of delve into that a little bit. I don’t want to give away too much, but we’re going to do some animal forensics based on skulls and skeletons.”

Mount describes why they wanted to focus on the older kids for this Halloween-sic activity.

“So we just felt that it was important to do this with an age group that wants to learn and a little bit more in depth, but will also be careful, and respectful, and not afraid of the materials that we’ll be showing.”

No pre-registration is necessary for this free program.
