Halloween is around the corner and several communities in Greene County have announced their respective Beggar’s Nights.

The city of Grand Junction is having their Beggar’s Night tomorrow from 5-7pm, which is also when the downtown area is hosting the Trunk-or-Treat. According to City Hall, this is where businesses can set up a vehicle along Main Street and give out treats to children. The Grand Junction Fire and Rescue will also have its station open with tables set up for people to come and enjoy the holiday while also staying warm.

Then on the day before Halloween, the city of Paton will have their Beggar’s Night from 5-6:30pm. Finally, on Halloween, the cities of Jefferson, Scranton and Churdan will have their respective Beggar’s Nights from 5-7pm. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse has a general safety reminder for families to be aware of candy that may be suspicious.

“If you come across something in your bucket that’s been opened or partially opened, just toss it, just to be on the safe side. You almost hate to say it, but in today’s world we have to say it, homemade goodies, I don’t think much of that occurs anymore, but you’ll still get caramel apples, or maybe cookies or brownies or whatever, and if you don’t know that person that you’re getting those from, you might be a little concerned about that.”

Clouse adds that for all trick-or-treaters to wear some reflective items on the costumes so they are more easily seen by motorists and for motorists to be mindful of when children are out collecting candy on their community’s Beggar’s Night.
