As temperatures drop, many people notice an increase in coughing and sneezing.

While some illnesses are more prevalent in colder weather, Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arber explains that not all are linked to decreased temperatures. He notes that some illnesses spread due to increased close contact with others, especially during holiday gatherings. Additionally, underprepared food around the holidays can lead to what is commonly known as the stomach flu.

To prevent illness, Arber advises washing hands for about 20 seconds. For intestinal illnesses, he emphasizes the importance of properly cooking foods and ensuring cold foods do not get too warm or sit out for extended periods.
