The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Volleyball Team has their eyes set on the state tournament, as they hit the road to Dallas Center-Grimes High School tonight.
The Tigers, who are 23-8 on the year, will try to upset the Mustangs, 25-11 overall, at home to make it back to the state tournament in two years. Both teams are coming off of 3-set victories in the regional semifinals, where ADM defeated North Polk this past Thursday, and DCG beat out Winterset.
The Tigers and Mustangs have a lot of history with each other, as this will be the 29th matchup in the last 18 years, and it’s split exactly down the middle at 14 wins a piece for each side. During this season, DCG won in four sets in Adel on September 11th, and Head Coach Trevor Irwin describes that ADM has learned a lot from that match heading into tomorrow.
“It’s going to be big, there’s going to be lots of people there as well. And so, we know that they’re going to be a good team. We know that they have lots of options on their side of the net. So how can we just put ourselves in the best position to execute. We know that as a team, we’re going to have to play at a high level and we’ve been trying to practice that way, we’ve been trying to communicate that way, we’ve been trying to hold our mindsets to being really really focused and diligent to all the small things that will eventually add up to points.”
This is the same regional final from the 2023 season, where the Tigers took down the Mustangs in four sets in Adel to advance to the state tournament, and ended up losing in the quarter finals to North Scott. Tonight’s game will be played from DCG High School in Grimes at 7pm, with Raccoon Valley Radio carrying the coverage on K107.9 KKRF and KDLS 94.3/99.7 FM and AM 1310 around 6:45pm.
