Greene County High School boys’ wrestling practice begins on Nov. 10, and one of the questions at the start of each season for the past several years has to do with the number of boys out for the sport. How many will be on the 2025-26 Ram wrestling team? That remains to be seen, but informal conservations indicate it’s likely not to be more than 15. There are 14 weight classes in Iowa high school wrestling and it’s been many years since the Rams have been able to comfortably fill all of them.
Low numbers doesn’t mean there isn’t quality on the mat, because in the previous five seasons, Greene County wrestling has won five individual Class 2A State titles. The dual meet record over that time period isn’t nearly as shiny due to forfeiting weight classes and each forfeit meaning six points for the other team.
Three juniors return as State qualifiers for Greene County. Degan Miller is a two-time State qualifier who placed fifth at 165 lbs. last February. The Jacobs twins, Brennan and Jaron, both won matches at the 2025 State Tournament, but fell short of placing in the top eight.
