A non-profit organization in Jefferson is seeking volunteers to assist with a program to help those impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
Midwest Mission Iowa Director Danille Curtis says there are three days scheduled for next week for people to pack 5,000 Rice and Soy Blessing Bags for the people that were affected by the recent natural disaster in Jamaica. She states that their first shipment of supplies went out October 31st, but now that the organization’s partner, Food for The Poor is on site, the greatest need that has been identified is food.
Curtis notes that there are two-hour shifts planned for next Thursday from 5-7pm, the following Friday from 9-11am and 1-3pm, as well as the Saturday after that from 9-11am, 1-3pm and 5-7pm, with all of the work to be done at the Jefferson location for Midwest Mission. She adds that if people want to make a financial donation for a meal, each one costs about $2 and is estimated to feed about six people. To sign up for a shift or to make a donation, click here.
