The Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office has a farming course happening on Friday, but registration closes tomorrow.

ISU Marketing Manager Sarah Wood tells Raccoon Valley Radio the organization is hosting a “Farm Transition and Succession Workshop,” that will give people valuable information about Ag Loan Programs, tax problems of farm retirement, property ownership and estate planning basics. She reveals that ISU Farm Management Specialist Patrick Hatting is leading the discussion, and encourages anyone to come.

“It’s just a great opportunity for people who are even just thinking about down the road having to make that transition, whether it’s to another family member or how they’re going to handle the transition and succession of their farm.”

Wood outlines that there is a fee for the program, as Dallas County residents pay $25 and then it’s $37.50 for non-residents. She adds that it will cost $10 for each additional family member after the first two people. The program is happening on Friday from 9am to 3pm, but the deadline to register ends tomorrow.
