Registrations are closing soon in Greene County for two holiday programs for less fortunate families.
Greene County New Opportunities Coordinator Teresa Lansman says people can still sign up for the Greene County Toy Drive, where last year, they served 310 kids, from newborns to 14 year olds. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that people can also make donations toward that, which they will accept other items than just toys.
“And we always like books and games too. Those can be family-friendly and that helps to get the kids learning and working together, and the families spending a little bit of time together.”
Lansman notes that the other program that families can also sign up for is the Holiday Food Baskets. She points out that last year, Greene County Adopt-A-Family served 160 families and Sherry Graven leads the coordination efforts to provide necessary food items to households that can be quick and easy.
“Sherry does amazing trying to get food to help out for the families. We all know when the kids come home, they are hungry. And so the two weeks between Christmas and New Years when the kids are going to be at home, this is the type of food that we help with.”
Lansman adds that monetary donations are accepted for the Holiday Food Baskets and can be mailed to Greene County Adopt-A-Family at P.O. Box 364 in Jefferson, to Graven in the Greene County Engineer’s Office, as well as her office at 1401 North Elm Street, also in Jefferson. She will also accept monetary donations for the Greene County Toy Drive. Donations are collected until mid-December for both programs.
