One of the final events at Springbrook State Park before the start of the new year will be Friday.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan says that she will be leading a night hike for individuals to enjoy the beauty of the full moon. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why this one will be a special full moon.
“It’s supposed to be a very high, beautiful moon. So it should be easy to see as long as we don’t have overcast skies. And so we will just hike under the light of the full moon and we will start a fire in the fireplace at the CCC shelter and we’ll roast some marshmallows and I’ll have some hot chocolate there.”
Riordan mentions that before the hike there will be a meeting at 6pm to plan special events for 2026, as Springbrook State Park will be celebrating a century of being a state park. She adds that the hike itself will start at the CCC shelter, and then finish at the shelter as well, with the event to be from 7-9pm.
